The problem

Schedule FA is where good filings go wrong.

If you hold — or held, at any point last calendar year — a foreign bank account, brokerage account, or foreign shares, Indian law requires you to disclose them in Schedule FA. Not the Indian financial year — the calendar year. Not today's exchange rate — the SBI TT rate on the specific date each value is measured. Not the value on 31 December — the peak value during the year, the closing value, and the initial cost of every acquisition lot.

Your statements weren't built to answer any of this — and getting it wrong isn't a rounding error. It's a real, per-asset exposure under the Black Money Act.

Any broker. Any format.

No templates — reads the meaning of the document.

FinDrishti doesn't rely on per-broker parsers that break the moment a statement changes. It reads a Morgan Stanley StockPlan report, a Fidelity annual statement, a bank PDF or a tax form and extracts the same clean set of holdings, transactions and income from all of them. If it's a US financial statement, it can read it.

Upload everything you have — we'll sort it out.

Real people have four quarterlies, an annual summary, and a since-inception report — all overlapping, none agreeing. Upload all of them. FinDrishti de-duplicates identical transactions, and when two documents describe the same period differently, keeps the richer one and sets the other aside — auditable and reversible, never deleted.

No black-box numbers

Reconciled. Sourced. Correctable. Watching for surprises.

It admits what’s missing
Checks your transactions against the balances your statements report. When they match, your numbers are Exact. When a year-end snapshot arrives without the activity behind it, we don’t invent history — we mark it Estimated and say exactly what document would make it exact.

Every number shows its work
Every value carries its provenance — source document, price, the SBI TT rate used, the date, and the arithmetic. Peak, closing and initial value each trace back to the exact events that produced them.

Done to the letter of the schedule

Peak, closing and initial value — computed, not guessed.

FinDrishti rebuilds the day-by-day quantity of each holding across the calendar year, values it at daily closing prices, and converts at the SBI TT rate for that exact date. It reports per acquisition lot — the way RSUs and staggered purchases must be reported — not one blurred line per holding. Sold mid-year? Still disclosed, with peak and initial value intact and closing value zero, exactly as the schedule requires.

A note from the founder

“I came back to India after eight years on H-1B — a Morgan Stanley account full of vested RSUs, a 401(k), a US savings account. Every July, I dreaded Schedule FA: which rate, which date, which lot. One mistake risks a ₹10 lakh penalty, per asset.”

“FinDrishti reads the statements I already have and shows me exactly how it got every number. We're not a filing service and not a CA — we're the input layer that makes Schedule FA something you can trust, not fear.”

FAQ

Schedule FA — frequently asked questions

What is Schedule FA and who has to file it?+
Schedule FA is the section of the Indian ITR where residents disclose foreign financial assets — foreign bank accounts, brokerage accounts and foreign shares — held at any time during the calendar year. If you're a returning NRI or hold US RSUs, a 401(k), or a US brokerage account, it very likely applies to you.
Which exchange rate does Schedule FA use?+
The SBI Telegraphic Transfer (TT) buying rate on the relevant date — not today's rate and not the RBI reference rate. FinDrishti applies the correct SBI TT rate for each date automatically (peak date, 31 December, and each acquisition date).
What is "peak value" and how is it calculated?+
Peak value is the highest value your holding reached during the calendar year, in INR. FinDrishti reconstructs your daily holdings across the year, values them at daily closing prices and the SBI TT rate for each day, and takes the maximum — rather than guessing from a single snapshot.
Do I need to report RSUs and sold shares?+
Yes. RSUs are reported per acquisition (vest) lot, and any foreign asset held at any point in the year must be disclosed — even if you sold it before 31 December (closing value 0, but peak and initial value still required). FinDrishti handles both correctly.
Can FinDrishti read my specific broker's statement?+
If it’s a US financial institution, yes. FinDrishti reads statements by meaning, not by template, so it works across Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard, US banks and others — regardless of layout.
I have several overlapping statements. Is that a problem?+
No — that’s the normal case, and it’s a strength. Upload all of them; FinDrishti de-duplicates identical transactions and reconciles overlapping documents into one complete picture.
Does FinDrishti file my return for me?+
No. FinDrishti prepares and exports your Schedule FA data (PDF + Excel) for you to file yourself or give to your CA. It is a data-preparation tool, not a filing service or an adviser.
Is my financial data safe?+
Your documents are stored encrypted and scoped only to you, and we never ask for your bank or broker login credentials. You can delete your data at any time.
What does it cost?+
The full engine — upload, extraction, reconciliation, review — is free, and you can see the first three rows of your Schedule FA free. The Tax Season Pass (₹999) unlocks every row and export, and includes ₹249 of AI credits.
